What information we collect and why
When end-users leave comments on the site we collect the penguin name, e-mail address and penguin color – as shown in the comments form, and also the end-user’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
We do not offer saving your penguin name and e-mail address in cookies after leaving a comment.
The Islanders uses local storage cookies to provide users with a service which is safe and with appropriate content for their age group. Date of birth is never sent to, seen or stored by The Islanders or stored in cookies. Your device only stores a cookie corresponding to the suitable age group.
Embedded video from JW Player
IP addresses sent to Google Analytics are anonymised. Google Analytics user-level and event-level data is retained for 26 months after which it is deleted from Google Analytics servers. User-ID, Demographics and Remarketing in Google Analytics are not used by The Islanders.
The Wordfence security firewall keeps server-level access logs for visits to The Islanders services.

Who we share your data with
Comments are passed through a spam filter provided by Akismet by Automattic. Information shared with Akismet includes IP address, user agent, referrer, site URL and the comment itself with its metadata. You can read Automattic’s Privacy Notice at https://automattic.com/privacy-notice/.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment on The Islanders, your comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is to recognise a user’s follow-up comments.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments on The Islanders, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you.
This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
